AFT, AFL-CIO response to Fraternal Order of Police letter

At its March 2001 conference, The California Federation of Teachers adopted a resolution supporting convicted cop-killer Wesley Cook, also known as Mumia Abu-Jamal.

On April 14, the National Fraternal Order of Police sent a letter to American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, asking them to “publicly reject this repugnant resolution.”

On April 18, Education Action Group contacted an AFT spokesperson and asked for the union’s official response to the FOP letter. As of 12:30 pm, the union had no official comment.

EAG also contacted an AFL-CIO spokesperson, and was told that the union had no plans to respond to the letter.
